If you find yourself locked out of the system in the middle of a hand, or if your connection goes "questionable", then clear, then back to questionable, the following may improve the performance of the application on your machine.

Read the category that best describes you:

AOL users
AOL will disconnect you if they see no activity in your AOL window for 25 minutes, or sometimes less. Leaving an AOL window open will not solve the problem. You must actually use the window by clicking to find something, checking mail, etc. at a regular interval in order not to be disconnected.

There are several other AOL-specific settings that you can change on your computer to improve your connection to ComePlay.

Call AOL Tech Support at 1-888-346-3704 for help in changing these settings, or if the above does not improve your ComePlay games.

Computers more than 2 years old
ComePlay is built to run on a Pentium II -- or better -- computer.

If your computer is a Pentium I or upgraded to a Pentium II, you will have trouble sustaining a connection to ComePlay. This is because your computer is struggling to play the animations and sounds, and never gets a chance to send signals to the main server. In the absence of a signal from you, the ComePlay main server closes your connection to allow other players to continue.

If you're unsure what kind of computer you have:

1. Close or minimize your applications so you can see the desktop
2. Right-click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop
3. When the menu appears, select Properties
4. Look at the lower-right area of the message box, it should tell you what kind of processor you have.
   (e.g. Pentium (r) means Pentium I)

New computers and fast lines
If you own a new computer and have a fast connection but still have trouble maintaining a connection, please contact ComePlay. We can run a test that will pinpoint the problem. Call us at 866-824-3652.

To reduce the stress on your computer, and improve your connection:

1. While running the game, click on the Bartender or Dealer
2. Choose Preferences
3. Select "Force slow processor compensation". (If it's already grayed out, your computer will likely have trouble running the game and sustaining a connection.)
4. Turn off all sounds by de-selecting those options.
5. Be aware that this situation degenerates as you enter a room, and even more with each new player in a room. So, if you can play in a room with 2 people, but lose connection when there are 9, you can assume that your machine is not powerful enough to run ComePlay.

Preferences let you customize how ComePlay looks, feels and sounds on your computer. To change or set your preferences, click on the Bartender in the Lounge or the Dealer in the room. Or, click on the Menu button in the upper left of the main display and choose Preferences.

Preferences are either on or off. A check mark in the box indicates that a preference is on, or active. Click the box to toggle on or off.

Preference Descriptions:

Show bubble hints:
Displays text hints that help explain and illuminate each area of the game, including descriptions of game play as you watch or play.

Show floating chat text:
Chat text appears next to each player, letting you chat with everyone at the table, just like in a real poker game. Chat also appears in the Log window (i.e. the window that displays game play). Click the Chat tab to see chat logs in each room.

Player name and chip values always visible:
Shows each player's name and chip value. Passing your mouse over a player displays the same information. Note that players' chips are always in view and accurately represented, just as in a real poker game. (We told you it was true-to-life.)

Ping time always visible:
Displays your ping time in the lower right corner of your screen. Ping time is the time, in 1/1000ths of a second, that it takes a ComePlay message to travel from your machine to the server and back. In other words, a ping of 500 means it takes about 1/2 second for your Bet instruction to reach the server and come back to you. Note: when this feature is turned on, pass your mouse over other players to see their ping time. Knowing a player's ping time can tell you if a particular player has a slow connection, or is just slow to act.

Animate view cards action:
When you click on your cards, you can either see them instantly, or through a 0.3 second animation by toggling this option on. Just remember, every time you look at your cards, other players see your avatar looking at its cards. In other words, turning off the setting does not turn it off in other players' view.

Always use green felt tables:
Displays the same green felt table in every poker room. There are 4 different room schemes -- chosen at random -- each with its own table design. Some players prefer to always see the same table center.

Audio:
Controls the sounds you hear while playing. There are currently two collections of audio, voice and sound effects (e.g. the word 'Bet,' and the sound of chips dropping, respectively). You can turn each on or off independently. As an added feature of the true-to-life experience, sounds on the right or left sides of the table will favor your right or left speaker respectively. Also, sounds from the far end of the table will play at lower volumes.

Force slow processor compensation:
Reduces the level of animation and effects to compensate for older pr
ocessors. ComePlay should run fine on a Pentium II or better, but if you run several other applications at the same time, the software may struggle. Selecting this preference will help, while causing animations to play less smoothly. Note: this setting is automatically chosen (grayed out) if your machine has a CPU of 200 mhz or less.

To chat, just start typing. As you type, chat text appears in the top center area of your main display. Use standard backspace and mouse action to edit your text. Press Enter on your keyboard to send the chat text. It will appear to everyone else in the room.

When you arrive in a room, the last chat statement by each player appears in your display.

Use Preferences to control whether or not, and how long, chat is displayed. Click the Dealer, Bartender, or Menu to reach Preferences.

ComePlay has audio for player voices and sound effects that add to the feeling of being in a real card room. If you have a sound card and speakers, you should be able to hear the audio while the ComePlay application is active. Adjust volume by using your speaker or computer audio level settings.

ComePlay audio stops playing when another program (or even the desktop) is selected and in use. (Note: ComePlay animations will play even while the application is not active.)

Use Preferences to control whether or not, and how long, chat displays. Click the Dealer, Bartender, or Menu to reach Preferences.

To change your password, click on the Menu button in the upper left corner of the main display and choose Account. (Note: you cannot access your account information while in a game; you must first fold, sit out, or leave the table.)

In the Account window, click the Edit Mode button in the lower left corner. You will be asked to enter your password to make changes. (If you've forgotten your password, please contact us at admin@comeplay.com.)

To change your password, enter a new one and confirm it. Click the Save Info button to save it. Change your password as often as you like -- it's a good security precaution to do so.

To change your identity information, click the Menu button and select Account.

(Note: you cannot access your account information while in a game; you must first fold, sit out or leave the table.)

In the Account window, click the Edit Mode button in the lower left corner. Enter your password. (If you've forgotten your password but know your login ID, press the Forgot Password button in the initial login screen, otherwise please contact support@ComePlay.com.) Then, change your identity information.

When changing identity information, you cannot change your Nickname or user ID as other ComePlay players know you by this name. We feel it is important that every player maintains these aspects of their ComePlay identities, as an unfair advantage might be gained by changing them. As always, we welcome feedback on this point.
